May Day Celebration in Historic Downtown Annapolis

Bus trip May 1, 2025

Crossroads Garden Club invites you to travel by bus to historic Annapolis on May 1st.  Every year on May 1st, historic downtown Annapolis is transformed with colorful arrangements of blossoms and blooms. Containers full of fresh-cut flowers are thoughtfully placed in front of businesses and homes as part of the annual May basket competition. This annual beautification of Annapolis, sponsored by the Garden Club of Old Annapolis Towne, has been an Annapolis tradition since 1956. Stroll the streets and enjoy these inventive and unique creations throughout the historic district. Baskets can be found along Market Street, Conduit Street, Southgate Avenue, Main Street, Fleet Street, Pinkney Street, Cornhill Street, King George, Prince George, Main Street, and West Street. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping as well.

We will leave on May 1st from the bottom of Martins’ parking lot on the Dual Highway at 7:45 a.m. and travel to Annapolis, Maryland, by chartered bus. Once there, we will walk through Annapolis enjoying the arrangements that reflect the businesses and baskets hanging on homes’ front doors and gates. Participants are reminded that the trip will take place rain or shine, so dress accordingly. We will depart from Annapolis at 1 p.m. and travel to Timbuktu Restaurant for lunch. To ensure that Timbuktu Restaurant is ready for our group, we will have participants select their entrée a week before we leave and then this order will be sent to the restaurant. We plan to return to Hagerstown by 4:15 p.m.
